I have to admit, I like your weapon analyses. Are you helping with the weapon guides or what?

I have to admit, I like your weapon analyses. Are you helping with the weapon guides or what? Xeiros and I have submitted info and screenshots for the Weapons compilation guide. So far, I've written two competitive guides on Splatoon: One for the Splat Charger, and one for the Splat Roller. I'm gonna write some more when I have more time. I'm also trying to update the Splatoon Wiki, though Wikia is acting really dumb for me, for some reason.

Just because you joined in February, doesn't mean you're not one of the original members of Squidboards. Once the game comes out, and hoards of people join the forums, the active members now will all be regarded as the head inklings, you watch. Seriously though, I'm very excited to see how large this community becomes.

General thoughts on Splat Rollers
On the complete opposite end of the risk spectrum, we’ve got this category of weapon. Even with its ability to fling ink in a small arc directly in front of you, it has easily the worst range of any weapon type in the game. Not only that, but due to its necessity to be more or less exactly where it can have any effect on inklings and the environment itself, it more than any other weapon category is most reliant on support from teammates. Its ability to quickly cover the ground in ink is without equal, but with that comes a steep price.
Due to the way it trails ink behind it as it’s rolled across the ground; roller users are unable to quickly move forward using their own ink and the squid form. Despite relying on teammates to protect them, they offer plenty of support of their own. This is the only weapon category that can move and ink turf simultaneously without the inkling suffering a reduction to their run speed. The mobility and weight stats of course being varying factors, this weapon type has potentially the fastest human form ground speed in the game.
Rollers run ahead and lay down ink and the medium – long ranged inklings provide backup by utilizing the ink they’ve set down. It’s pretty straightforward. So while they may have fantastic horizontal usability, their vertical prowess leaves much to be desired. In certain maps such as Blackbelly Skatepark among others, due to how walking works, rollers are unable to cover the sides of certain walls and objects with ink even with its ink fling ability in order to swim up them. This severely limits their vertical mobility as they’re unable to reach higher ground on their own giving any inkling above a roller user a tremendous combat advantage.
The Killer Wail and the not so Heavy Burden of Choice
I find this to be a rather intriguing special weapon for a number of reasons. First off, despite its impress range and overall killing power it doesn’t actually lay down any ink which limits its usefulness in Turf War. As for Splat Zones, inkling don’t actually need to be inside the zone in order to protect it so using it as a clearing tool is dependent more on the other team’s tendency to group up since its length is much greater than its width. That is to say, don’t expect nice clumps of inkling you can conveniently splatter all at once on any competent team.
The real fun though comes in how this weapon operates. Now outside of if and when one should choose to activate this special weapon, its mechanics present the user with a simple choice. Once you’ve clicked the stick in to use it just aim and fire right? Not quite. See once it begins screaming you can either choose to move away from it and let it continue firing on its own or continue holding onto it in order to direct the sound waves elsewhere. This is where the risk of this decision comes in.
When you are moving the speaker as it fires, your inkling is completely helpless from pretty much every direction but in front of it. Remember it doesn’t need the inkling there to continue wailing once it’s been fired. Do you hold onto it and risk being blasted while you move it around to potentially catch more inklings in its coverage radius or stick to the good old fire and forget in the name of safety? If you’re not aware of the location of all four enemy inklings, you might just get splatted if you’re not careful when using this special.
