Right. And I hope they find some other nice stuff to add in. Speaking of which, what types of changes would you like to be made to the controls? Would you like to be able to fully customize your controller?

Customizing my controller would be nice, but I doubt that the controllers will be as complicated as smash's. You'd probably use the C-Stick to run, A to shoot, B to switch weapons. and X to jump. Anything else is just extra to me.
I didn't get to experience the demo so anyone who has can correct me. My point still stands.

It would be nice feature to have but obviously not essential. I hope however, there will be a button to toggle on and off repeated shooting, especially for a game like Splatoon. I would love I could double tap the trigger to tell the game to continually shoot ink and then just pull the trigger again to stop it!

The C-stick? What? Do you have Gamecube controller on the brain? I'm going to assume you meant left stick to move. For main weapons that can shoot in a rapid stream like the Splashshooter or 5.2 Gallon all you have to do is hold the button down to start the barrage of ink and gently lift your finger off to stop it.
There is no weapon switching in Splatoon. Instead each of your three weapons is assigned to a different button. Basically you'd need to assign the following actions in Splatoon assuming you've got movement and camera controls taken care of through a combination of dual analog and in the case of the Gamepad, the gyrscope:
1. Main Weapon 2. Sub Weapon 3. Special Weapon 4. Transform 5. Jump 6. Super Jump
The majority of those are all actions we should be able to assign to pretty much any button we want. In the case of any controller, but the Gamepad which can of course take advantage of its touch screen, number 6 would have to be assigned to at least four different buttons. So a total of nine different buttons on say the Pro controller, but only five on the Gamepad which is funny when you consider that both controllers have identical button layouts. Thanks to the touch screen and gyroscope, the pad is easier to work with though everyone will have their own preference in the end.

I just hope Wiimote controls make it in. I'd honestly would be baffled if it didn't.

Thanks for such an informative post! I'm guessing that they'll have all the regular controllers- gamepad, wiimote (/with nunchuck) and pro controller. It would be nice if from here out gamecube controllers could become usable with more games so that I'd be able to incentivize my parents to buy me one.

I could see the GC controller being used for Wii and Gamecube games on the eShop or HD remakes of GC games or whatever, but I doubt new games would utilize it. Splatoon definitely won't - the controller would have to be dual-analog, which the Gamecube controller isn't.

the controller would have to be dual-analog, which the Gamecube controller isn't. Ermmm, wat? lol Anyways, it seems like the controls should be simple enough... I never played the demo, but I'd assume it's: ZR=shoot, ZL=squid, R=secondary weapon, X=jump, R stick=look/press to use special weapon, L stick=move. I doubt I'll do any custom controls unless something feels reaaaally wrong.

I would really like to see a mode of play where splatters mattered the most. I love the Turf Wars mode, but diversity is the spice of life.

I think a points based splatter mode would be best. Head shots would be 10 points, body shots 5; most points in 3 minutes wins. Or at least something to that effect.

I've always been under the impression that the C-Stick was a digital input, but upon further research apparently it is an analog input. Wonder why it's not really treated as such in a lot of games.

Yeah it really doesn't make sense. Like, why not use it to move the camera in Metroid Prime or something. Nintendo will be Nintendo.

The added retical looks pretty cool! Does anybody think a scope could possibly be used in one of the weapons?
