Cool! Thanks for the heads up.
"Oh and by the way, all the gear you purchase is for the single player campaign only and does not transfer over to multiplayer."
Wait what? What? What? Hold on. What? ... That doesn't sound right.
Oh thank you another multiplayer mode besides Turf War. Splat Zones sounds super fun and hectic. No Voice chat in the game at all confirmed. Well at least now we know for sure.

All it means is that your Single Player gear is distinct from your multi-player gear. Can't grind SP to suddenly get top tier equipment in MP- you gotta earn it fair and square- by actually fighting over people.

Agreed with Blackbird. Also, Nintendo revealed just enough info that a Nintendo Direct can still happen just for the game. I knew there would be an Info dump.

No, Andre just misspoke. He was talking about the multiplayer gear you purchase in the three shops. There has never been any mention of gear you unlock for the single player campaign. We've known for months that the clothing and perks were multiplayer only. Hence the flub.

I think the Ranked Battle idea is interesting, I didn't really expect that. I find Turf War a bit more interesting to my own sensibilities but hey, why not give something to those who wan't more hardcore options?
I presume that Turf War will also have some kind of ranking? I assume that's what the "getting to Level 10" thing means. Maybe that refers to your Coolness?

Right in one. That's exactly what it refers to inyo.

I am legitimately hyped for this game. I can't control it. I haven't been this hyped for a shooter since the Wii' s Conduit. I like the skate park style map!!

In this interview with some guy named ProJared who I've never heard of before, a dude named Corey from Nintendo said that we WILL be able to join friends online. Not really a surprise but nice to know. They don't say how that works, though. Maybe in a MK8 sorta way

I'm getting really frustrated with lack of voice chat in Nintendo games. It's hard for anyone to take their games seriously as competitive games when you can't even talk to your team. Still, though, I'm super excited for the game regardless.

Oh Nintendo, you know how to make your fans happy.
Everything looks so amazing! The maps, weapons, the game modes, clothes everything!
Unfoutunatly no voice chat, I'm fine with it, I can get by through external ways, it just sucks because critics are going to bash the game for no voice chat.

Yeah, I can always use skype or something, but it's a major annoyance, and if I'm not playing with friends it'd be nice to strategize with strangers.

Yeah, I can always use skype or something, but it's a major annoyance, and if I'm not playing with friends it'd be nice to strategize with strangers. Yes, it would be nice, though Splatoon is doing worldwide matchmaking, so chances are the strangers would not speak your language. I imagine that this, as well as not wanting to deal with the rampant online harassment that plagues ANY online game, is why they left it out for strangers. For friends...I imagine that they figured people that knew each other can use Skype and therefore they could save money and time by not bothering with developing a chat system. It'd be nice if it was there, and I'm slightly bummed that it isn't, but party system + Skype will work just fine. While I almost never agree with a developer taking the easy way out, in this case it doesn't bother me because Splatoon bombards you with information constantly, so you can make decisions without direct communication.

No voice chat is honestly just ridiculous at this point. Nintendo is beyond stubborn and needs a harsh slap from reality. Intuitive gameplay or not, it's a team based game. It's an arena shooter, there's no way, no matter how fast the matches are, or how everyone can help in their own way, you're telling me voice chat is not a good thing to have.
It wouldn't be so bad, until you read from the Destructoid preview that you can't tell what your teammates are picking. Its probably an extreme example, but if the entire team ends up picking the same weapon and it's one that's not helpful on that map, you're gonna be at a disasvantage. Who knows what other situations could arise that voice chat would help with.
I don't want to get all negative but Nintendo being so damm adamant about no voice chat in their games is annoying. Looking at the positives, literally everything else that has come out of this preview looks great. I'm still excited to play this game and all this other news has gotten me hyped! Hopefully there's a loud demand for voice chat and they can patch it in later. It's not a deal breaker for me though since I can always just use Skype.
Glad to know there will be other game modes than just turf war and ranked sounds like a great option for competitive players. The fact it's getting patched in later is also cool so we can already see how Tue team plans to support Splatoon post launch. Hurry up, May!
