Well, there's a tournament mode in Smash U. If people get really competitive in Splatoon, Nintendo will probably add a tournament mode. I already predict there is a tournament mode.

What do you guys think about the ocktogirl? She is Splatoon's Dark Pit. That one edgy character that gets in the protagonist's way during the storyline.

Describing her as Splatoon's Dark Pit makes me think she's likely for Smash. XD

Very cool design she has, I hope she and a boy variant can be played in multiplayer. I can see the boy version having their hair tentacles in dreads, or braids.
Just to shed light on the earlier discussion here, the paint roller weapon actually has two melee attacks. Rolling someone over, which is an instakill, and jumping and slaming it down on opponents, same effect. What's interesting is that I've notice that splattering (killing) other players with the roller has the biggest splatter coverage radius in your color than any other weapon so far. So it would seem splattering foes with that weapon is ideal for covering turf.
Now here's where it gets interesting and balances the weapon out. It's a melee weapon only as far as we've see. No range attacks. So that would mean it's impossible to climb up things vertically yourself unless a teammate has made an... "ink latter" for you to use. So basically you're prettyy much limited to taking the long way up things, if there even is one.
Now it may be possible for you to jump and cover things to go up them, but you'd be wide open and if it's to high up, it's futile anyways. Interesting, isn't it?

Dakid that's really insightful, nice post! I personally think she is a anithero but also a rival, like shadow from sonic.
On topic of weapons I think a spraypaint can would be interesting. It could be a close range weapon that can paint a lot faster than a regular paint gun but you must aim at the ground if you want it to paint there.

Spraypaint could be interesting, they could easily be the sappers of Splatoon, do Inklings have a health bar in the game?

The have a bar in single-player, but in multiplayer I believe health and damage is indicated by your screen. When damaged it starts turning into the ink color of the opposing team.

You mean the Gamepad screen right? Then I guess it could work, spraying could be a weapon used to quickly drain away the opponents health bit by bit and could easily cover and hide the player's surroundings, but doesn't go as far as the regular paint-gun and it wouldn't help you defend against any upcoming attacks.

I hope to Glob you can run people over with the Roller... if they haven't noticed you first, that is What if two rollers collide with each other? I wonder about the "paintbrush" weapon. expanded image linkIt looks like a sword, but it doesn't look big enough to cover extense areas, and a melee weapon in a shooter might be risky, so what's the advantage? Maybe you can swing it to make a horizontal wave with some range?
