When do you think we'll see more news on Splatoon? Do you expect a direct for the game when it gets closer to release?

Hopefully around quarter 1 (january, february, march)
I'd like to see some more multiplayer elements, especially new game modes.

We'll probably hear more sometime next year. Probably not the next Nintendo Direct, but the next. You can bet your Wii U there will be a dedicated Direct just for Splatoon near launch.

Probably in the next Nintendo Direct in January or so.

Given how they gave so many games directs like the Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta, now I feel like it's a guarentee.

there was a direct for Wonderful 101? I had no idea!
Though I did see the one for Bayo 2
Gotta say that I'm REALLY excited for a Splatoon-only direct.

If an event like that ends up getting people really hyped, we might even get a second direct. (But that's really unlikely)

It's a strange feeling, paying $13 to use what amounts to a giant Beyblade in a Zelda game

Miyamoto seems really proud of Splatoon and the team he assembled to make it, plus the fact that Nintendo is putting alot behind this game. I'm sure it'll get a direct.

Hey guys, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this: do you think Nintendo will be supportive and stick behind a competitive scene for Splatoon?
I'm really looking forward to the future of this game, competitive, casual, and otherwise. Though I think of things like Nintendo almost taking down competitive Melee at EVO a few years back, and I wonder if there's a possibility it'll happen for Splatoon.
I'm quite hopeful that's not the case, but what do you guys think?

I can see why they would want to take Melee down at EVO, when there is another game in the series released after it (Brawl). I don't think they wanted to take it down because they are necessarily against competitiveness, but that is just me. Anyways, I sure hope the game is balanced enough for competitive play and if it isn't, that Nintendo is willing to release patches to improve the experience somehow.

Well, you also have to remember, by many accounts, it was Nintendo's legal department that acted alone- as in, without confirmation or otherwise advisal from the higher ups. Once THEY got ahold of it, they said 'wait, whoa, what, no guys! Just let us talk with them first!'
Although yes, I could see why they wouldn't be the biggest fans of that- especially Project M.
That said, I think they've changed their stance rather quickly, and I could see them supporting (if not starting, exactly) a competitive scene for this game.

The whole EVO fiasco was a mistake on Nintendo's part and they fixed it as fast as they could. Nintendo of America at the very least wants the competitive Smash scene, and I think they understand now that a game's competitive scene are a valuable advertising asset. I don't think Nintendo will make anything to specifically appeal to a hardcore crowd, but they're not going to try stifle them like they did with Brawl.

If Nintendo sees there's a competitive scene for Splatoon, I'm confident they'll embrace. Whatever to make the game look better by being able to show off the different ways it can be played. It would only work in their favor.

I doubt we'll see Nintendo the competitive scene for any franchise in general now, considering last year's Smash Bros. tournament where Nintendo actually wanted the competitive community with them.

Blue pikmin I don't understand your post considering if they support smash competive won't they support other games competitve scenes. I think it will receive some support from nintendo but not a nintendo created tournament.
