I don't want a bunch of tacked on half-assed extra modes just so we can say oh at least they're there. Turf Wars is so creative the others had better have just as much thought and effort put into them. Quality over Quantity if you will. That's why I mentioned earlier about stressing the importance and value of making each additional game-type a unique, fresh, and fun experience you can only get playing Splatoon.
This is why I am starting to believe that Nintendo will only create completly new, creative and inventive game modes for Splatoon. Turf war is obviously the main mode taking the spray-the-map-with-ink concept while other modes will be based on something else, but something only splatoon could do.

Just because the tanks go to predetermined locations that some could wait at doesn't make the mode less fun. Ever played hardpoint? Same stuff.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, I think that while many shooters today use the same game modes (deathmatch, CTF, some form of Hardpoint or Headquarters), Splatoon can probably make every single one of these modes work.
The reason is simply because of the game's mechanics.
With a heavy focus on territory control, movement, stealth, and teamwork, as well as the squid mechanics of the game itself, all of the game modes that I mentioned can be made fun and strategic.

Capture the Flag would be awesome! I also think Tank Fill mode that someone else mentioned could be good as well, I think Nintendo could take that idea and make it into something epic. I would also like to see the race that someone mentioned, that would be a fun distraction from the main game modes.

I thought of a new spinoff game mode of Turf War.
Swim and Splat
For the first 30 seconds of the game, you just try to ink as much of the map as possible. Then, Every player is force in squid form and can't come out for another 15 seconds, you are allowed to swim around, but obviously you can't shoot your gun. Games last for 5 minutes, and just like in turf war, the most ink spread across the map wins!

Yeah I started thinking about maybe making the forced in the squid mode maybe being shorter to maybe like 10 seconds, that way the fasted paced action will still be there.

Interesting? In what way exactly? He literally just described Turf Wars except that from the 30-45 second mark the game forces you into permanent squid form. That's it. He never said anything about the forced squid deal happening more than once at set intervals. Taking it exactly the way he described this wouldn't even qualify as a variaiton on Turf Wars since apart from the first 45 seconds it's exactly the same thing.
Even if he had, it would still boil down to Turf Wars except for about half the match's duration the game becomes incredibly restrictive and boring for no good reason. I mean this entire idea revolves around taking away certain abilities from the players. Hey the objective of the game is to cover the map in ink, but for about half the allotted time you won't be able to actually do that. Instead you get to twiddle your thumbs waiting around.
Remember in Zelda when you'd get cursed by a bubble and lose access to your sword for a few seconds? Did you like that? Did you enjoy being locked out of certain options? Did that make the game more enjoyable for you? It sure didn't for me. You think being able to do less is fun? Not only would you lose access to all three weapons, a good number of perks would become worthless too. Hurray! You've completely lost me.

Open up your mind a bit to think about how this game mode could be polished to make it better. In squid mode, they could have the squid's have special abilities that make it more interesting. If this idea was to be polished, it could turn into something great.

Yeah, and you could have special abilities while in squid mode to make the short amount of time in the mode more interesting, such as moving faster as a normal squid, being able to attack players, etc. 5 minutes I think would be too long, shorten it to only 3 and that would be better. Other small things could be polished to make the game just as fun as Turf War, and it would be different enough from Turf War that it would considered it's own mode.

Yeah after each interval if the 10 seconds, the next 30 seconds has some sort of special add-on, such as better ink spread, faster human form, and so on.

Doesn't being in squid mode just make you faster though? It seems like everyone would just flop around with no idea what to do for those ten seconds as squids. Even with perks it just seems like a dull version of turf war.
CTF sounds fun, I can't come up with any ideas of my own but I love reading the thread!

Xeiros raises some good points with the modes he was against though. I don't think he was trying to be negative, but he was pointing that some of the ideas don't work or sound fun at all.

I understand Xeiros points on the game mode I suggested, I just wanted to see all of your reactions to a game mode variant of turf war and wether or not you would all like it.

- Race mode. Get your team from point A to B as fast as possible. - Flag race. Each team has a flag. You're trying to carry it from point A to point B. You can't shoot while carrying the flags. The two layouts are parallel and intersect each other multiple times so the other team is going to try to stop you/slow you down. (think of payload race from Team Fortress 2). - Balloon mode. Balloons spawn all over the map... whichever team pops the most wins. A variant could be each team has balloons of their own color and you want to pop the enemies' and defend your own.
