Teams and tournaments could be quite fun. I'm from Canada though so a local team is probably out of the question. I'm hoping that clans/teams are fairly easy to set up so strategy becomes easier. I am also Canadian and can attest to the fact that only seven people live there, and very far apart, in fact. At least the seven of you are all relatively nice people.

Oh yeah, eh? *chugs a gallon of maple syrup* We got a couple a hosers, that's aboot it. In all seriousness, Canada's population density outside of the bigger centres (Windsor-Quebec Corridor including the GTA, Vancouver, Edmonton/Calgary) is pretty low, too low to really create social scenes around games. I'm from the Prairies originally, and even in Winnipeg (POP 700,000) it's hard to get anything going. I really envy places like the East Coast Megacity and SoCal, where there is enough human capital to support these niche things.

Being from the Mario Kart 8 competitive community and assuming that around the same number of competitive players exist(since the game is based around teams), there will be a lot more than 7 possible players on a "Canadian" team. Just give the game more time since it hasn't even been released. The MK8 Canadian Team had 15+ members and many players struggling to become a part of it. The only thing that you would need to rely on is the popularity of the game and the popularity of the competitive nature that it introduces. I could see this game having much more clanwise than the mario kart community just as long as it shoots off as it is a brand new franchise.

Inyo and I were just joking my around about the population of Canada being just 7 people, haha Though I do agree that the only way that clans will be formed (regardless of the country or region) would be the appeal of the game's mechanics, and its overall popularity as a new IP (from what we've seen, Splatoon has received an enormous amount of praise and support from various news media sources and forums.) We're a pretty close knit community already, so I'm very excited to see squads and teams be formed in the future.

Ayo, new here. I'm hyped for Splatoon making a competitive scene, and stumbled upon this site. Can't wait for it to get off its feet upon release of the game, I hope
I've been really obsessing over the weapons, specifically the Brush (which there happens to be NO FOOTAGE OF ) and I wanted to know what weapon do you think works the best for Splat Zones, and what Main/Sub/Super weapon combo you'd like to find in the shop. As for me, I think that the Brush will be a strange weapon for inking, and (ironically) probably not a good choice for that sort of thing in Splat Zones. It's main use will probably be splatting other players, with a quick melee attack that has more range than the Roller. I'm personally hoping I'll find the Bubble Shield paired with the Brush. Although unconventional, it'd really put you in a spot to win close quarter skirmishes around the enemy team's spawn (where the map happens to have less room for movement) and keep them at their base while the rest of your team covers the map. And maybe the Bomb Rush as a super, again focusing on winning quick duels, and possibly getting multi-.... er, splatters, to buy more time for your team to ink the zone.
Also I'd love to be part of a team, It'd be fun having a little squad of friends to go head-to-head against other squads. Maybe I should make a website for that. I have been learning webpage coding with C++ and Java. If you want to see a website I'd want to model it after, look at Anther's Smash Ladder.

There's some brief footage of the Brush in action. From what we've seen, Brush users move INSANELY fast, so I'd anticipate them acting sort of like a Scout from TF2. They'll be great to have during a Splat Zone match For example: Brush would run ahead of the team, and a Splat Charger lays down Ink for their teammates to swim in, towards the point. As the other Inklings swim towards the zone of contention, the Splat Charger can quickly jump to the Scout's position, to cover the Inklings arriving at the point. Like the Splat Roller, Brush users will want to be continuously moving. This weapon can be a way of distracting opponents, and possibly bait them away from the point and towards a teammate's line of fire.

This is EXACTLY the type of playstyle I want, fast, mobile melee fighting to keep enemies at bay. Now we just need the bubble shield and Bomb Rush paired with it! It seems to be that you'll want a balanced team of weapons. 1 Melee, 2 Mid ranged, and 1 Charger perhaps.

Just to clarify, the bubble shield "Bubbler," is actually a special weapon

Weaksauce? It would be incredibly broken.
If it were a sub weapon all you'd have to do is load up on either ink saver sub or some other ink management perk, activate it, at about 2 seconds remaining on its duration dive into the ink to refill your tank, reactivate it the instant it expires, and repeat until you're tired of being unkillable. Voila! Unlimited invulnerability.

Exactly. The Bubbler works much better as a Special, as it allows you to be tactical when utilized in conjunction with your teammates, rather than have relatively infinite invincibility as a Sub weapon.
Much more balanced that way.

As for charger users jumping to the scout (brush user's position) I'm not sure how that would even work. Let's assume the charger user wants to land at a point they can be effective from. Which is to say, not ground level since landing anywhere near it could spell potential doom from them. They're just not equipped to be in the thick of it which is more or less what ground level is. They'd get torn to shreds by the shot-based guns or run over by a roller the moment they landed.
Let me give you an easy example. Blackbelly Skatepark. You know that one tall platform? The one featured at the end of the Splattershot Jr.s demonstration video? That's a pretty good sniping spot for a charger to jump to. The challenge: Explain exactly how without any assistance the brush user is meant to get even on top of it so the charger users can super jump to them. I can tell you right now it's straight up impossible for a Roller user to get up there by themselves. If it's anything like the Roller, the Brush will have terrible vertical coverage thus limiting the locations it can reach on its own. In essence they're quick and nimble runners, but terrible climbers.
This is where knowing what a weapon or one of its variations sub and special weapons are would be quite helpful. You can't get the full scope when it comes to gauging what a category is even capable of without it. I mean all of this speculation we've been doing based on about four seconds of a brush user painting the ground. That's it. It's just not enough to go on. At least for me. I'm hoping it's featured next week so we can finally shed a bit more light on it. I'm sure it'll be shown off eventually either way given we've still got two more months to go.
