So, something that's been kind of a small thing in most talks about the Splatoon world is the language. It's clear that there's SOME kind of organized language native to the Squidpeople, and I believe that this could be decoded, much like Hylian. In this case, again like Hylian, I believe there's a method behind the madness- in this case, most likely a simple substitution cypher. There has been some poking at the question, but only recently did I think the issue could be solved sooner than later. I don't know much about Japanese, though, so I don't know if what's in the latest trailer is just stylized Japanese symbols or no. If not, it could help with figuring it out. If not...eh.

I agree the language the Inklings speech is very similar to the aspects of LoZ language. I think if there actually is voice acting in Splatoon, it will probably just be jibberish, like it is in Pikmin 3!

Which is great, because I love jibberish

I was hoping someone here was more fluent in Japanese so that they could inform me/us as to whether the symbols in the latest trailer are indeed Japanese or not.

That would definitely be nice but oh well, what can we do. Perhaps once squid boards becomes a bigger thing, then we will have someone who can translate.

I studied a bit of japanese two years ago, I already forgot almost all of it but some of the Splatoonish symbols actually look very similar to japanese letters. I can't make anything out of it though, not even with a diccionary, maybe it is encripted or I just don't understand the stylized font. Or maybe it really is just some random gibberish.

It's so wonderful to see how much work and creativity is going into making this a fully realized world. From the clever characters designs to the splatoon language this is a world you can't wait to get lost in.

It makes me think back to Hyrule Historia. The symbols may be code for English or Japanese like Hylian and Gerudoian (Gerudon? Gerudite?).

Camboulit Arms' Well it actually reads KANIArms. Kani means crab in Japanese. I love the horseshoe crab symbol. This game is just brimming with character and personality.
