Okay, so maybe a random clothing generator would be out of place, but giving the fact that enhanced weapons have been seen (with at least three weapons) It wouldn't be too farfetched to believe that they'd have a similar feature for clothing. What do you mean by enhanced weapons?

What do you mean by enhanced weapons? Maybe enhanced was the wrong word, but they've shown different versions of the same weapon type several times. If you look carefully enough at the hub reveal footage you'll find three different rifles, two rollers, two brushes and maybe two ink guns.

Well to use the Quick Ink Rifle and the Ink Rifle as examples. They're really just variations of the same three stats. One isn't an overall improvement over the other. They both share the range, mobility, and charge stats. The Ink Rifle has greater range, but in return its other two stats are noticeably lower to balance it out. It's meant to be used in a more focused long range style. It'll be the same for pretty much any other weapon group. Certain stats may go up, but others will go down to compensate. Do you want an all rounder of the weapon or one that excels in one area by sacrificing some effectiveness in others?
It will come down to finding what role in team play you feel suits you best and then choosing a weapon that allows you to perform that job to the best of your ability. From there, choosing clothing with perks on them that have solid synergy with your weapon set of choice so as to get the most potential from it will be your primary objective. I imagine there will be many general perks which will work with any weapon load-out, but we've already seen some that only affect specific weapons such as the ink bomb secondary weapon perk which appears to increase its throwing range.
Also keep in mind there's nothing stopping you from using different weapon sets so mixing and matching all sorts of different combinations from your ever growing closest full of clothing options will also certainly be a thing. The more pieces you buy, the more perks you'll unlock. That's more options to choose from. Soon you'll have enough variable combinations to suit any of your potential needs. It'll all come down to how you want to play and enjoy Splatoon.

It depends on how many perks exist and how many items of clothing you can own at once. The problem with equipment in Smash is that there are thousands of possibilities, so it's impossible to get that one exact piece on every console. If there are only maybe 30 different perks, then getting optimum equipment is entirely feasible for tournament play.

Also for those who may be wondering why they'd even bother making two and three perk pieces, I'd imagine it's mostly to do with intended progression. In general, the more perks a piece of clothing has the higher its price will be with the four perk pieces hovering around the 8k+ range each. The four perk Goggles for example cost nearly 10k by themselves. I doubt you'll be making much gold in a single match though it does depend on your ink score so it can certainly vary. Your inkling's level also plays a key role. We already know certain weapon load outs won't even be stocked until you're deemed experienced enough to handle them.
The developers likely intend players to start out buying the two perk pieces, wear them in matches to both unlock their perks and earn gold at the same time. As they spread ink and accumulate wealth and experience they'll eventually be able to transition into buying and unlocking perks for the three and finally four perk pieces. If you were to only go after four perk gear you'd be at a disadvantage in actual matches since other inklings would have the benefits of perks while you did not. By progressively transitioning to better pieces you make it easier to earn the money and experience (both literal and figurative) you need to afford and handle the best gear in the game.
Sure the two and three perk pieces will eventually become obsolete in competitive play, but in many ways they were only ever meant as pseudo training wheels to begin with. Cosmetically is of course a different story. I doubt there will be a limit on the number of clothing items you can buy mainly because I'm off the belief (which is all it can be at this point) that there will only be a set number of total pieces in the game. This isn't some MMORPG with a gear drop system and limited inventory space. It's just fun, casual friendly, and inviting Splatoon.

Pretty sure multiple clothing options will have the same perks. I'm not even worried yet.

1:38 AM - 26 Jan 2015This is the clothing store, 'Sas au Bon'. This store has a wide range of unisex clothing with both a high fashion sense and perks for your fighting skills. However, perhaps because jellyfish can't wear them, the store sells no bottoms. 1:43 AM - 26 Jan 2015This is Sas au Bon's charismatic store clerk, the jellyfish known as Jelonzo. Well attuned to what's hot, he is a sort of 'fashion leader' for young people. With a unique way of speaking, so much so that you may not understand him sometimes, but that's all part of the secret to his charm.

1:31 AM - 28 Jan 2015Report from the Squid Research Labs. In the Inkling society, whether or not you are 'cool' is the basis of your evaluation. Uncool Inklings will not be served by the shop keepers. So, before you think of grabbing some sweet gear to wear, you better grab some battle experience. Jelonzo: Woah, you are very uncool. You're so uncool that I can't hide my surprise at your uncoolness. Go get cool and then come back. 1:33 AM - 28 Jan 2015Report continues. Participating in battles and gaining experience will raise your rank. This rank lets others know if you are 'cool' or not. To be able to buy your first weapon you'll need to be Rank 2 and to be accepted by the owners of the other stores you'll need to be an even cooler Rank 4. Anemo: Ah, I guess you've gotten a little cooler. I'll look out for some gear that'll suit your style from now on, I guess. Kumano: Nah, he's still a dork! Note: The word they use for cool is a pun with the word for squid in the Japanese (イカす/イカ). So this basically confirms that rank applies to all shops and not just weapons as we were already made aware.

10:00 PM - 29 Jan 2015From investigators, it was asked so I want to explain how to play again in lieu of the upcoming "fighting Conference 2015" starting tomorrow. Each game is carried out as a two 3 minute 4 vs. 4 matches with a one minute warm up match so new players can get used to the controls. 10:01 PM - 29 Jan 2015Along with the operation description, allow me to introduce the map system as well. The two teams bases are located in the upper right and lower left extremes on the map. A fierce battle is expected in the center of the square. Holding and controlling that center plaza is going to be the key to victory.

We already knew how the controls are, but still here's a rough translation: ZL: Squid (Dive to recover ink) L joystick: Move R: Bomb (uses 70% ink) ZR: Ink shot (uses ink) R joystick: Look left and right X: Jump Y: Camera reset Squid icon on the touchscreen: Touch the icon to do a super jump to your partner I don't understand the last one, but it must be about controlling the camera by moving the controller.
