It's a strange feeling, paying $13 to use what amounts to a giant Beyblade in a Zelda game

We already know about the Roller, Bazooka, Sniper, Grenade, and Nuke. But what else would you like to see? I personally would like to see Mine and Hose weapons. The Mine would obviously have to be big enough to stick out a bit and wouldn't be covered with paint, but woould be small enough that people not paying attention get splattered. The Hose would be a constant stream and have insane range, but to use it you would have to tether it (maybe to a wall, or a hydrant would appear where you tether it) in order to use it.

I would imagine if a hose-type weapon were to be used, rather than that, it'd be slightly more portable, but only slightly: the idea I imagine for it would be something that you couldn't run with while using- basically you'd make yourself a stationary turret of sorts. The general idea would be:
Pros: Ridiculous fire speed Range equivalent to the stock Paint Gun Very high lateral coverage.
Cons: Cannot move while firing Drains REALLY quickly if you fire continously (like, in 3 seconds) Reloads a bit slow.
I could see something like that working. My personal idea would be something I saw in a piece of fanart- an oversized paintbrush! You could swing the thing to send out waves of paint that could splatter on both floors and walls quickly at close range.
It would be more than just a melee weapon, however; here's how I see it:
Pros: Can block weapons fire when swinging; paint waves are wide. Decent/good spread at close range. One hit splats on enemies. Practically infinite ink; autorefills when walking over ink- Squid form not necessary for reloading.
Cons: Very limited range. The GRENADE has a longer range than this thing. Only thing with less range is the Paint Roller.
Your mine idea seems interesting, as well.

I really hope balance is the top priority for this game when it comes to the design and play of weaponry. That being said, I hope there is a legit paintball gun, that would just make me laugh so hard!

...That's essentially what the default gun is.

I'd also like to see some rocket/grenade launcher- style weapons.
Pros: Wide area affected, with a decent range Lethal shot that does massive damage
Cons: Limited shots per reload. (up to two? per reload) Heavy weapon, causes player to move extremely slowly

Hmmm...intriguing. I could see it happening.

I think a Shot Gun like weapon could be fun. It could cover a wide spread in front of you but would have terrible range.

I really love the idea of hoses and especially a trap such as a mine, the gameplay focus on traveling around as much of the map as possible rather than filling a certain objective in a certain spot(Search and Destroy or Domination in cod for example) makes me really wonder about how mines can be creatively used. Not to mention how the mines can camouflage with the team's ink, so you can try to hide them very easily under your own ink, but they can be exposed easily if splashed with the opponent's ink.

I almost want to see a melee weapon like a brush, but the roller covers that niche pretty well. Mines/Turrets in some fashion could be fun, but they'd rely heavily on other fighters to make pathways and gain ground in the team's color. Then again, Snipers would have the same issue. Also isn't the Bazooka a "power up" as opposed to the others being "normal" weapons? So it'd make sense for each weapon to have a "powered up" version unless any weapon class can get any powered weapon. Does that make sense?

Grenade Launcher (with stick grenades as well) like the one used by Demoman in Team Fortress 2 would be an interesting addition. Of course, they would have to be adapted for the vastly different play style/purpose of Splatoon. A video of the Grenade Launcher: www.youtube.com/watch?v=moRWn1YLNM4Another video, but this is is of the Stickybomb Launcher: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiXf2O0SAFA

What about a melee weapon like a paint-based knife that's more targeted toward taking out other players than spraying paint? Such a weapon would be ideal for taking out enemies in close quarters (even around corners, possibly) but the trade-off would be that it would have little or even no ability to spread paint on the ground. I'm imagining a tool that is a more subtle melee weapon than the roller, but can't spread paint as effectively as the roller. Perhaps it would force the user to move more slowly, but use less ammo than the average weapon. This kind of weapon would be suited to "sneaky-style" players, although it might not be a good idea for Splatoon since the objective is to cover the map in paint rather than chase down enemy players for kills. Thoughts?

That last reason is why I don't think such a weapon'd fly in the game. I can imagine them wanting to focus hard around ways that let you spread paint.

I'm kinda hoping for a Paint Grenade launcher. So some sort of heavy weaponry would be really awesome. I know that we already have the bazooka. But I would like to see some more heavy weapons.

I just thought of another cool idea for a weapon.
F.L.U.D.D. from Mario Sunshine, specifically the Hover Nozzle.
When you press the trigger, you shoot up and paint starts shooting downwards, holding you in the air until you run out of ink. You'll be an easier target, but it would be a killer support weapon. Splash effect would be big.
