I'm in the Smash community, and a few of the commentators and players would be interested in helping set up a few tournaments for Splatoon when it comes. (In another thread I saw that Prog and D1 were interested, don't quote me on that) My thought is this: if Splatoon becomes a successful competitive game, would it be out of the question to be alongside Smash Bros in tournaments, possibly sponsored by Smashboards?

Good question. Since there's already support for the game from the Smash community, it's not surprising that people are already thinking about setting up tournaments. However, I do think that Smash and Splatoon are completely different. As such, Splatoon wouldn't work in a fighting game environment like CEO and EVO. Though I would love to see Splatoon alongside Smash at other video game tournaments like MLG.

As I said in the other thread, going to be working with Apex for some Splatoon events. And don't be surprised if you see Smash and Splatoon at the same venue.

Considering what just happened with Mario Kart 8, I wonder if it's possible for an Inkling now to be DLC for Smash down the line...

I would love to see Splatoon and Smash both making appearances at events, maybe not fighting-game specific tournaments like EVO, but APEX for sure. It could help to build hype for Splatoon and hopefully encourage other Smashers to get involved in the Splatoon scene as well.

It really looks possible that the competitive smash community will host splatoon tournaments. Many competitive smashers would kill for a copy of splatoon. And I'm one of them!

I hope we get Inklings as DLC i even made up a mock moveset:Down special: Ink splat - Can cause opponents to slip if they run/walk over ink and it functions as a teleporter point causing the inkling to immediately pop out of the ink puddle when the user uses down b again after laying it down. They will instantly zip from anywhere on the map and immediately pop out of the puddle if puddle hasn't been slipped on. Puddle disappears after use of teleporting so players would have to lay it down again. The Ink Splat also disappears once an opponent slips over it.Side special: Ink Shot - Kinda like the FLUDD, but can temporarily slow down opponents, depends on the opponents percent, can be mashed out of.Up special: Inkling Rocket - Inkling morphs into a squid and shoots strait up.
Neutral Special: Ink Bomb - Inkling throws out a Ink Ball, like the sticky bomb it will detonate once timer runs out can be passed on to opponents when passed. On detonation, ink bomb will go off and victim will be encased in a wrapping that will leave them immobilized. (Think Yoshi's Egg Lay) Victim can mash out of the move, though harder to do at higher percents.Final SmashUpon activating the Final Smash a column of Ink will pour down and gradually expand in a dome. Think a cross between the Starfox Smart Bomb and Luigi's Negative Zone in Brawl. Those caught in the dome can be encased in an Ink wrapping as a finisher effect of the nuke.

It's a strange feeling, paying $13 to use what amounts to a giant Beyblade in a Zelda game

I like the idea of having Splatoon at Smash events during it's early days. It'll grab the attention of players who may not have otherwise have gotten into Splatoon, and allow the game itself to pick up steam faster.

The Splatoon community can really get the exposure it deserves by having Splatoon featured at Smash tournaments.
I'm so HYPED for this game!!!

I would be surprised if no tournaments held the two of them together. Apex was already mentioned and is the largest scale tournament I can think of that would be smash-focused and include Splatoon. I've seen games like Mario Party and Pokémon being played alongside Smash, so I can't imagine the same not being true for Splatoon.

There's at least three competitive Smash players on this forum, TheRapture/Splature included, so I have to imagine it'll be something seen alongside Smash if it keeps getting this kind of exposure.

Are we able to discuss Inkling's chances in Smash here? Should I make a new topic on it?

An inkling could also be an awesome assist trophy in Smash, spraying ink that makes your enemies walk slower on it or take damage if they're hit directly. Splatoon has all the potential to become a competitive game, and I expect to see some tournaments
