Hey all! Thought I'd throw in a fun game to keep us occupied while we wait for Splatoon to come out. This'll be a basic mafia game, pitting the village (in this case, the Inklings) against the mafia (Evil Octopus Army). The basic goal for the Inklings is to completely eliminate the Octopi, while the win condition for the Octopi is to either be equal or greater in number.
In this game, there is a day phase and a night phase. During the day phase, everybody in the game will discuss who they think is suspicious, and vote on one player to lynch. Being lynched, as you may have guessed, results in death, and immediate ejection from the rest of the game. You may also vote to abstain from lynching, which will simply end the day early with no deaths. During the night phase, members of the Octopus Army will send me votes, in PMs, of which of the innocent Inklings they wish to kill. Whichever one they vote on will appear dead the next morning. There will also be a role (potentially more than one, depending on the interest this gets) on the side of the Inklings that will be able to send me actions via PM during the night phase, but more on that further down. During the night phase, discussion about the actual game in the thread is prohibited.
Now that I've talked about the basic rules, here's a larger list of things to clear up before we get down to business! Some of these are irrelevant to this specific game, but I plan on setting up some more complex versions down the line that'll utilize all of these.
1. The village must eliminate all mafia in order to win.
2. The mafia must outnumber the village in order to win.
3. Members of the village do not know the roles of other villagers unless specifically stated in their role.
4. Members of the mafia know of the identities of their fellow mafia members unless specifically stated in their role.
5. The dead are forbidden from posting anything that can affect the course of the game.
6. During the day phase, vote on who to lynch, and discuss the game in the thread.
7. Once a majority vote is reached, or the 48 hours are up, the day phase ends. If there is no majority, there is no lynch.
8. During the night phase, power roles will PM the host with their actions and the mafia will vote on who to kill.
9. The last member of mafia to vote will visit the person who is to die.
10. Once all night actions are in, or the 24 hours is up, the night phase will end.
11. During the night phase, there is no posting of game-relevant information or discussion.
12. Copypasting the PM you are sent detailing your role is strictly forbidden.
13. Metagaming is not allowed. An example of metagaming might involve checking to see if a person is viewing a topic or using the PM system by looking at their profile.
14. There is no posting of screenshots.
15. You must play for your faction. There is no trolling games by deciding to work for the mafia even if you're a villager.
And of course, the roles!
the Hero: This Inkling's a little bit special! Every night, she can snoop around and discover the alignment of anyone she investigates.
Villager: Vote in the daily lynchings, lead your team to glorious victory!
the Villain: This brooding young lady certainly seems stealthy! Every night, she can investigate someone and discover their role.
Underling: You are a member of a proud, 8 legged race. Trick the pesky inklings and vote to take one out every night!
If you're interested in playing, say so in the thread, and I'll add you to the list. I may change the the roles up a little bit depending on the attention this gets. Sign ups will be open until 12:00 PM Central on the 17th.
