Just a little curious, back when I played baseball when I was younger sunflower seeds were a big food to eat in the dug-out and just recently I had eaten some sunflower seeds and I have this nostalgic feeling to some seeds, and then I remember how everyone would fight over how they should be eaten. Personally I ate them shell and all, but other kids felt is was much more customary to put the seed in your mouth, split the shell with your teeth, then spit out the shell. I had tried it that way but I never found it as satisfying...

It's more of a baseball snack, and I don't like/play baseball.

If I had sunflower seeds, I'd get a press and take the oil out of them to use for deep frying.
I eat peanuts like you say though, with the entire shell. Though the only thing to be careful about eating an entire seed or legume like that is that the sinewy fiber in them can actually clog up the digestive system if one eats too much of it. Maybe not sunflower seeds so much as peanuts.

My mom gave me a recipe for sunflower seed cookies. So that's how I eat my sunflower seeds. Either that or chocolate covered. Yummy!

I eat 'em right out of the sunflower when it's harvest season, since I always have them in my garden.
Course, I wash 'em first...

How I eat sunflower seeds is really dependent on how I'm feeling. Sometimes, I'll suck on the shell, spit it out, peel it, then eat the seed. Other times, when I'm feeling a little lazy, I'll just eat the whole thing. But when I'm feeling really lazy, I'll just buy pre-peeled seeds, and eat 'em like that.
