It's a strange feeling, paying $13 to use what amounts to a giant Beyblade in a Zelda game

I'm personally hoping that Splatoon won't get any. While an Inkling figure would definitely be cool, I think locking content behind NFCs would hinder the community. Mst people are getting Amiibo for the content, not the figure, and the Price:Content ratio seems pretty off for this to be conducive to a healthy online community, especially since a Splatoon figure likely wouldn't compatible with anything else unless they added an Inkling to Smash 4 or a costume for MK8. Most people wiill put up with it a bit because it's Mario / Link / Kirby / Pikachu etc. but Splatoon has something to prove and is a new IP.
What do you guys think?

Could be similar to how Hyrule Warriors does Amiibos, earning random rewards for it. Don't know which Amiibo exactly would fit into Splatoon well.

I'm actually not too fond of how Hyrule Warriors is doing it, where you get a new weapon for buying an Amiibo. I already paid for the Season Pass, while I'm going to do it, I'm not too big on spending $13 on one weapon and one of worst Amiibos.

Perhaps a Splatoon amiibo would get you a new weapon, outfit for your character, etc.
Truthfully, I don't see this being as big as the other amiibo, mainly because Splatoon just doesn't have the popularity like the rest of the amiibo lineup has.
Though things can change in the future, who knows!

I could imagine getting neat costumes or something if you used a Smash Bros amiibo, such as Mario giving a Mario hat or something. Though any sorts of Splatoon merchandise would be neat, even if it was an Amiibo figure... I really love the design of the Inklings!

That is true, Inklings do have a great design. If it's just costumes I can live with it, but I don't want big aspects like weapons or other game-altering elements tied to them.
Though some of the Amiibos are pretty rough in person (Marth, Link, Villager) so I'd be a little skeptical at first announcement.

Hmmm. Maybe for storage purposes? Maybe save your custom Squidling to an amiibo so you can take it(upload it) to a friend's Wii U? That seems a bit too simple to warrant an amiibo though.

I actually really like that idea. I know that when my friends want to play local Call of Duty, something that's always getting in our way is that they have to reconfigure their perks/killstreaks/skins/etc and it takes a good 15-20 minutes for us all to finish (well all of them at least, I usually just use one of their sets when I play with them). $13 seems kinda steep, though I'll agree After the most recent Direct though I'm not sure Nintendo really cares about being low-price when it comes to DLC anymore.

I would 100% buy a Splatoon Amiibo, but I'm not sure that I actually want one to exist. Alternative costumes would be a cool idea, and non-functional changes to weapons would be cool as well, such as using the Mario Amiibo to get a F.L.U.D.D. that sprays ink like normal.

I would prefer the Splatoon amiibo support to be similar to how they are doing in Mario Kart 8: Extra outfits. I'd rather not have to buy amiibos to get new weapons for the game, if possible.

It isn't just for Splatoon.

It isn't just for Splatoon. I know that, but I'm not getting Smash and I don't use Miis in Mario Kart 8 (along with the fact that Link is being added to MK8). The only use I'm gonna have for this Link figure is getting the Spinner. At this point I'm not sure I would even have minded if it was $5 regular DLC and not included with the Season Pass.

I'd be down for it. No complaints.

I do like the ideas of transferring your customized inkling to someone else's Wii U as well as other Amiibo's unlocking costumes. Like a shirt with sprites of bloopers for example.

Having Amiibo's unlock weapons is not a good idea, especially if it ends up broken. But it should go the MK8 route.
Mario - Hat, overalls Fox - Visor headpiece (with ears), jacket. Samus - Suit, no helmet piece, Arm cannon designed ink tank. Link - Hat, Tunic. Duck Hunt - Dog ears and Duck ink tank
