If you head of over to Nintendo of Japan's Splatoon site you will probably agree with me that their version of the site is improved upon what we are getting as westerners:the background is constant with game play footage and the main theme plays over the site, also seem's like there is a lot more information posted on it (Although I can't read it, Just seems there is more text). The next one is obvious that there Japanese Splatoon Twitter is updated much more than our Splatoon Tumblr, and that just makes complete sense. Other than that reply if you find more important things I missed about the site, or what did you find new if this was your first time looking at the Japanese websites! Artwork by HyperFludd

I've looked at the Japan site several times over the past few months, and I used to follow the twitter feed, but I'm no longer using twitter. It's no surprise that Splatoon is being pushed hard in Japan. If one notices the style and characters of the game, it is very Eastern culture-inspired. The characters are sea creatures, but not the sea creatures that western children learn first and idolize like sharks and whales. These are the sea creatures that a lot of Japanese people probably either eat and/or see everywhere in markets every week: squid and octopus (mollusk/cephalopod), anemone, prawn/shrimp and crab(crustacean/aquatic arthropod), jellyfish (medusa).
I believe the shooter genre is not big in Japan based what I have heard, being a more heavily Western interest. EAD are trying to make a shooter that is fresh and different for everyone, but they are also making a hard push for this new game to appeal to their home country. If successful, this could actually make shooters in general and shooters of this style a much bigger thing in Japan. That is why the success of Splatoon will likely be measured by Nintendo based on multiple things. One of the factors is going to be how well the game does domestically (Japan). They definitely want it to do well globally as well, but a huge hurdle for them is getting gamers of their own nation to want to play this.
This is why it may seem as though more is invested in promoting the game in Japan than internationally.

Sorry about the poll already existing, I just wanted to try the Poll feature on my first Thread post to try it out.

Japan always gets the coolest stuff, haha.
I really like how stylized the Japanese website is. Everything just feels so fresh and colorful, with the mix of 90's culture and urban youth.
So cool!

I'm jealous as well; that's why I posted this thread ( Link) awhile ago. It is a little outdated however as they have changed the Japanese website massively to what it is today, so go to the second page. Now listening to the updated theme once again like all songs in this game it is growing on me. I still like the old one more. The squids in these songs just creep me out except for the chorus and the entirety of the old version.

This is not really a big deal, but I just want to be picky about the poll options just for the sake of conversation and being a geek. In the Pacific (Japan, Australia) I think they are selling all three inklings separately, so the inkling squid is available there by itself. The three pack is also available in Canada, Japan, and Australia.

I've looked around to try to pre-order it but I haven't found it anywhere.

I see the girl and boy inklings for preorder on ebgames.com.au. The 3 pack may just be available from Japan, Canada, and USA. If I were in Australia and had really wanted it, I would have tried to get it on Amazon Japan. If it couldn't be fulfilled to your address, that's when it helps to have a buddy in Japan who can receive it for you and get it to you later. I'm in the USA and get things from Amazon Japan occasionally, though I have no friend there, so usually have to buy things secondhand that sellers are willing to ship overseas.

I'm mostly ambivalent, but I like amiibos, personally, just as something physical for my money.
