Actually was just watching some videos from Youtubers and yep it does match you up by coolness as well! I wonder if it tries to match you with players of similar coolness and of the same rank in Rank Battles or just by rank.

Something tells me coolness and rank might be separate things, but if they aren't, I think rank would be the more important thing to match people by in that mode

That's what I thought too. If it is the latter you obviously still earn coolness in Ranked Battles, though personally I think it is by rank, and then coolness like the second thing you said.

Why is everyone saying that turf war can't be played competitively? Just wondering... I know right! Sure Splat Zones requires more skill in order to play decently but there is still skill in Turf War from what I've seen. I think Normal Battles will be easy to play, hard to master while Ranked Battles will be hard to play, even harder to master.

No it can't lower. "Coolness" is your level. Basically your level determines how cool the shopkeepers think you are. It's your 'Level of Coolness'.

I'm definitely going to try and play really competitively. I can't wait to learn, discover, and share tricks that will make for a cool competitive scene.

I'm glad we are getting more people like you on this site! Especially since I'm basically the same way! Also, why call it "coolness" if it is just your level/experience?

Either works; it doesn't really matter as both are correct.

I personally think that it's called coolness for a positive take on gaining experience; as another reason to play more. I mean, would you rather brag about having a high level, or about being the coolest squid in school.

This image isn't new, but I'm including it to show as an example of coolness affecting how a shopkeeper (in this case, Annie) interacts with your character. Shy Annie says "Um, so you're looking cool," before telling you that she has something for your character, implying that she is about to supply your character with something based on its coolness. I'm not sure if we are debating whether coolness is in fact the term used for the exp/leveling system, or if it is something in addition to exp/leveling, but I think adding more than one rank system for pvp and shops (not including single player modes) would make things confusing. That is why I also think that coolness is in fact the pvp leveling. For example, level 10 would be Coolness Level 10.

But yeah a coolness rank separate from lvl/exp would make absolutely no sense in my opinion. I think it is just to give the shop owners some character.
