Here's a few more tidbits from the Edge article - A note mentions that one of the pairs of shoes available changes color to match the Inkling you've created - The article mentions one of the challenges for the girl inlking Amiibo might be completing a stage in a certain time limit - Nintendo is testing the game internally and there are frequent "quarrels" between team members discussing which weapon is stronger in certain situations - They spent two hours talking about how long it should take the grenades to explode - Amano and Sakaguchi have been been thinking about the game so much that they've been dreaming about it. Sakaguchi actually dreamed that he asked one of the programmers on the team to come up with something and the programmer in his dream implemented it and showed it to Sakaguchi. Sakaguchi loved the idea. He had that programmer (in real life) put it in the game the next day!
Also I forgot to mention that Eguchi thinks the Splatoon characters could appear in different types of games.

Don't want to miss out on the ink unicorn that flies across the sky, or squidzilla.

If some shoes change color to match your Inkling's color... Doesn't that hint to color customization in the plaza only being in the game? Also I hope the Inklings only appear in different genres in spin off games.

Also I forgot to mention that Eguchi thinks the Splatoon characters could appear in different types of games. Well now. That's intriguing.

Glad to see more modes coming. I'm still interested in what exactly the old retro arcade game has to offer.

No wonder they put this stuff in Edge magazine. It leaves you on the edge of your seat.

honestly whenever there's splatoon news i just come here to read the threads about it instead of going somewhere like reddit, everyone seems to think no voice chat will kill the game and act all melodramatic about it, lol...
is it bad that there's no voice chat? i absolutely think so. people being able to just freely talk on the mic to each other builds the foundation for an online community (in the game, not outside of it) and the choice to exclude it just hurts the game and furthers nintendo's reputation as a company that's 10 years behind the competition. halo 2 pioneered voice chat in games... 11 years ago. will it kill the game? no, definitely not. matches are very short lived (turf war is 3 minutes long, splat zones is only 5 minutes and will probably end before overtime) and there's already communication elements in the game in the form of the d-pad pings. shit, you can teleport to your teammates across the map at the tap of a screen. because of how fast the rounds are and the very short time to kill (usually 3 or 4 shots will kill and inkling, similar to cod or cs ttk,) games are too frantic to really have room for any meaningful voice chat besides "there's no ink here, someone give me a hand" or something. competitive teams and serious players are going to use third party clients like mumble or teamspeak anyway, so the exclusion of voicechat won't make any impact on a comp scene anyway...
i do wish voice chat in the game, but go on any splatoon thread on reddit and someone's gonna be a drama queen about it
sorry for the rambling. on another note, i love how miyamoto is a monster underneath his carefree smile. “I don’t understand. What do you want to do? There’s no appeal to this game,” i'd shit my pants if my boss said that to me

To be honest, Miyamoto sometimes seems like an asshole that hinders some things.

“I don’t understand. What do you want to do? There’s no appeal to this game,” i'd shit my pants if my boss said that to me Sometimes being brutally straightforward like that is going a little overboard, but sometimes it is what has to be done to get results.

I imagine he was tough with them because he knew they could come up with something better. He was probably right about it having no appeal, and his being hard on them is what motivated them to really make the game unique and cool instead of half-baked. It's Miyamoto's job to make sure that development resources are being used to make the best games possible, so I imagine he has to do the whole "I don't think this is working" bit a lot. Sometimes he's wrong (Sticker Star), but think of how many hits he's had over the past 30 years.

That's dedication to balancing the game. You can test in the game obviously, but those kind of discussions are what dictate how to nerf or buff something. I'm definitely excited to see how each weapon performs now.

He now loves it as he said it was one of the games he was most looking forward to and he has a Splatoon shirt (No I do not watch Smosh as they are terrible; I just watched the interview)!

I wonder if we'll get a Splatoon Direct late this month or early next month.
