I think I may be creating my Squad pretty soon... My Suicide Squad... weapons ablazing, going for the kill... your own kill... Okay just kidding. Although Suicide Squad, named after the DC comic series, would be cool. we should wait until the game comes out before organizing teams

I am interested in an online competitive scene (which doesn't seem to exist in Smash sadly). Offline/local isn't my thing. This^ Also, I second what FunkyLobster said. Joining/making clans pre-release is not a good idea, trust me, I have learned from past experience. I ended up joining a mk8 clan prerelease that I thought would be the best out of everybody as we were in mk7, but after the game came out, we were hardly active, there were only a couple of good players, and we got crushed by other clans.

Although Suicide Squad, named after the DC comic series, would be cool. we should wait until the game comes out before organizing teams I've actually thought about starting to check if any existing larger semi-casual gaming clans/organizations that do multiple games are preparing for Splatoon. That's probably what I would be mostly interested in. I kind of like having a whole package with a dedicated group who have a legacy and authentic members, dedicated teamspeak/voice server and people who are serious about having a legitimate group accommodating both casual and possibly competitive play. Hopefully something like that will exist that accommodates Splatoon. That's the kind of clan I was a member/organizer/leader for in the early 00s. I don't know if many groups like that exist anymore (let alone that branch outside of PC gaming), but if one doesn't pop up for Splatoon, you can bet I will make some kind of effort at some point to set something up like that. Unless of course Squidboards develops into something similar. I get the feeling like it may, but so far Squidboards seems more like a facilitator for helping to start groups or just find anyone to play with, no strings attached (which is absolutely fine as well, just not my optimum experience). It is really too early to tell for certain, however. I've mentioned a few times on this forum about a teamspeak server, but people seem to not have anything to say about that. I can tell that there is interest in Skype. I might be showing my age or conservatism here, but even though I don't know much about Skype or use it very often, I don't think it is a truly dedicated solution for voice communication. I have nothing against using it if that is what everyone else is doing, I just must impress upon anyone who is interested/cares that I think a more dedicated voice chat solution would be optimum. Of course these are all just my preferences and opinions, and I know that mine are probably niche and not the same as those of most others. However, if anyone does happen to be on the same page as me or interested in what I'm saying here, please let me know, and we should talk!

I was just saying SS is a cool name.

If this wasn't Nintendo I might seriously believe they'd let you create your own team with its own private lobby for easy communication. No. Instead you have to organize other means outside of the game and deal with what is sure to be the clunk Mario Kart or Smash online architecture. Get ready to share those private custom room codes when you challenge each other! Boy I sure would love to be wrong about all this.

One of the Nintendo Reps confirmed that there will be some kind of party system for players and teammates during the Youtuber Splatoon event.

I expect Nintendo to try and push this as much as they can in the competitive scene, I watch Competitive TF2, so when I first saw this game I was like this is just as addicting to watch.

i sure as hell hope nintendo knows how to set up a functioning party system for splatoon. the devs behind it are all pretty young, so i think they would understand that some players want to take the game seriously and that it won't impact casual players

I hope the competitive scene is able to flourish. If enough people are interested in the game (which, from what we've seen, a fair number of people are interested), the competitive scene will no doubt take form. What needs to happen is tournaments and events to promote the game, so more and more people join the community.
