LAN support exists somewhere in the code of the game as it has been presented up to this point, because the events where Splatoon was present were set up for LAN play. I believe it is yet to be seen if it will be locked away or removed from the final release all together. I would hope/expect that at the very worst the LAN support will be present deep in the code, but may have to be cracked to access and utilize. Nintendo seems to be very supportive to a competitive community for this game, for all we know, LAN parties could hopefully become a thing for this reason nintendo has not made any statement on the possibilities of a LAN feature, even a month away from launch. we haven't seen anything indicating a LAN mode in the plaza, and the only way we know LAN is in the game files is that nintendo reps at PAX, E3, the original APEX venue, etc have said that the game is running on LAN. LAN mode seems to be just for presentation, and if it's an actual gamemode we get to access, they've been doing a great job hiding it from us

Plus, considering how often they stress that 4v4 is online is making me feel that 4v4 will only be available online and not also with LAN.

I'm impressed that someone involved in esports is able to have these concerns and still put all the effort you have into establishing a framework for a community for the game. It shows that you have some kind of vision that a booming and/or competitive community will be possible. I'm not kissing up, I'm just very relieved that someone of your status/influence has a passion for this game and is acting on it early. It makes me more comfortable in my anticipation that I will not be disappointed as I have not anticipated a game this much in over a decade. I look forward to being active in the community and helping in any way that I can, whether competition-related, technology-related, or anything else.

Splatoon LAN: Friend 8 Wii Us The next problem is to get Nintendo to get rid of the 100 friends limit.

Splatoon LAN: Friend 8 Wii Us The next problem is to get Nintendo to get rid of the 100 friends limit. compare setting up 8 wii us to setting up 2 wii us (since the wii u only allows for 5 player local and splatoon is 4v4)... notice the difference? an actual LAN mode would make it much less expensive and awkward to go through

Besides an ongoing weekly ordeal, there should also be an entire tournament that goes on an afternoon or something. I would personally be interested in both.

Im not exactly sure if you need to friend the other Wii U's in order to have a LAN party, i think its based entirely offline. However, having more than 100 friends on the Wii U would be a great update to see. Its a lot better than the 30 friends on past Wii games.

I look forward to being active in the community and helping in any way that I can, whether competition-related, technology-related, or anything else. I appreciate your support! Despite all the uncertainties around the game, I'm confident that Splatoon will be a success in some manner. Certainly, I have every intention of supporting the game competitively to any extent that I can, but more importantly when I conceived Squidboards, it was meant to grow a community for the game as a whole, not just for one that wants to play the game in a competitive environment. The game itself, no matter how you play it, will be a blast. I knew when I finished my first game of Splatoon that this was a game I'll be playing for a long time. So I wanted to facilitate the means for a community to meet new people who are also interested, people I already know who are excited for it, and anyone else in between. I'm glad we've gotten people to join Squidboards, even if its only a few hundred. It's the start of something great.

I'm all for online tourneys, but I think we should go about this one step at a time and do some online exhibitions during the early days after the game's release to give players some time to get accustomed to the controls. All in due time now.

Given all the various weapon sets and perks all of which will take a good amount of time to purchase and unlock, it'll be a while before a player is able to properly familiarize themselves with the true meta of a given mode. As you level up, additional factors are introduced to you in the form of the aforementioned reward system. You have to earn the full multiplayer package and I don't simply mean reaching level 10 so you can play ranked modes like Splat Zones. The play experience you acquire on your journey to gain access to all it has to offer encourages you to dabble in the small rewards you receive along the way.
So by the time you've unlocked everything you'll have a pretty solid grasp of where each one fits in the grand scheme of a given mode. This applies to weapon sets as well as clothing perks. This is applicable to custom matches as well; the method by which any sort of premade competitive matches can even occur in the first place. If you truly wanted, you could easily jump right into some on day one, but you'd be playing a bare bones version of the real thing because you haven't earned it yet. Getting comfortable with the controls is barely the first step. You wont be able to farm gold or increase your coolness in custom matches either.
Maybe I'm wrong and the game will just give you everything for free when you play a custom game, but I highly doubt it. By the time you've earned everything, you'll have a pretty good idea whether or not you want to take your game to the next level with some serious competitive matches against other players with all the end-game weapons and outfits you have access to as well. You might even consider the journey your training wheels.

Smash 4 didn't give us all the custom moves right away (except for Miis and Palutena), or any equipment, which I'd argue is along the same lines as Splatoon's weapons and clothing perks. So for custom games, I imagine what you have is what you get

You might even consider the journey your training wheels. As far as clothing unlocks go, the items in the clothing, headgear, and shoe shops change daily. So you can't just play for a week straight and unlock everything. splatoonus.tumblr.com/post/108292408179/hot-new-nugget-our-researchers-have-identified#notesIt remains to be seen as to whether the shop is the same for everyone each day or somewhat randomized for each user. I also suspect you'll be able to trade items with friends (remember, this is the Animal Crossing team!) so that you can get a shirt that you missed in the shop or get a clothing item with a particular style and set of perks.

That doesn't mean it can be all unlocked within a week. After you buy one I almost guarantee there will be more that will be replaced the following week.
