This is the 1v1 mode in this game where you pop balloons. One person plays on the GamePad while the other on the TV. What is all of your thoughts on this and do you think there will be other 1v1 modes/local multi-player modes?

J not G.
My thoughts? The local multiplayer is a joke. I feel sorry for anyone that actually cares about it. Everything about it screams half-assed minigame we put next to zero effort into. I'd find it funny if it weren't so sad. If this truly is the extent of Splatoon's local play, I'm extremely disappointed. Oh well. At least the rest of the game is solid.

While the gameplay doesn't look as hectic as 4v4 (which is obviously because there's only two people in the level), I think the Battle Dojo is good as a training ground for players to try out new weapons, or as a way to introduce friends to the game.

Sorry, typo. Fixed now. Anyways yeah it is a little upsetting. Hopefully there is another local player mode but I doubt it. It didn't look as bad as Xerios is making it to be from what I saw in the Treehouse footage in my opinion though.

It looked mildly amusing, I guess. I can see why the focus would be on the other modes, really. What else could they have done? Besides my EXCELLENT "race mode" idea, of course... : P

Looks boring. Ironically I feel it actually would have been a fun mode with 4v4 players. It's just dumb, there's no way you're telling me classic controller pro doesn't have enough buttons to just map the Super Jump to it. Use the select button.

Would be nice if we could do LAN matches for the 4v4 modes. If they did it at E3 and other events, then the capability must be there, unless they lock it or don't put it on the final consumer release discs. However, if the LAN play ability is present on the discs but locked, it could be hacked.

It actually looks like a fun mode to me with the balloons spawning at different points drawing both players into the action.
I do wish they had a splitscreen local mode that was 2 v 2 or free for all, but we'll probably have to wait for Splatoon 2.
Also the direct pretty much confirmed that there's more online multiplayer modes than Turf War & Splat Zones

uh... i guess it looks fun honestly i think everyones gonna forget its in the game, people who bring their friends over are probably just gonna stick to playing mk8/smash 4 locally
i kinda wish that there was a way to easily set up turf war or splat zones locally... something like a split screen lan mode would be better than nothing, i worry about the longevity of the game knowing that if competitive splatoon ever gets huge, tournaments will have to have 8 wii us for a SINGLE game of splatoon...
im probably just being pessimist, though. splatoon is a game thats going to thrive online instead of locally, i just hope that at some point the game can remain "timeless" (the wii u getting cracked like the wii and somehow being able to set up dedicated servers would be great)

Think about it this way. With all the colors going on on the ground, having 2v2 would be discombobulating on the TV screen. Everything would blend in including your character and also the 3-4 squares on the TV. It wouldn't be fun because you really would be able to see what's going on, who's camping ect. They should have had bots and I would say they could patch the Octolings in as bots but seeing their AI in Singleplayer is purely offensive.
It look like it could be pretty fun right now, but that's all they could do. Maybe next time they'll add bots. I think patching in bots would be quite the task or impossible. Either way I could see myself having fun with my sister in this mode.

I don't think this is too big of an issue for competitive players, because I think everyone has to usually bring their own console, regardless if they end up using it or not, from what I read in ads during my time on twitter. That makes sense, as it is preparation for any situation. Also, don't lambast me if my interpretation isn't entirely correct. I am basing it on vague anecdotal evidence. I just think if someone is playing competitively and going to an event, that they ought to come prepared for any possibility. That would be my mentality if I were a competitive player.

Competitive Splatoon can be played online with no need to go to a tournament considering it's a different type of game than Smash. Teams are going to need to setup Skype chats, etc and the logistics will have to be worked out but it won't be dependent on people bringing Wii Us and TVs to an event.
I'd hope there's LAN options to make it easier for people who want to have a Splatoon Tournament as part of something like APEX, but it's not going to kill the scene for the game if that ends up being impractical.
