I fear the game will have a terrible community like Smash Bros and other multiplayer do, once/if it gets popular.
Game-wise, I fear the online will be dead after a couple months.

I don't think the online will die for a VERY long time. Call of duty Ghosts on the Wii u still has around 1000 players on, so a game that I can see a lot more people buying and still play online, I think we will have a very healthy size of players. I agree though that Splatoon should have a different community from Smash though.

As good as Smashboards is for information about things, it's also a font of some of the worst bickering over everything I've seen around a video game, so when Norris was talking about this board being close to Smashboards, I was like "ehhhh". Considering this game doesn't have all the baggage that the Smash series does, though, I don't think it will be a problem. I remember once that my friend and I were the only two people on Earth looking for Full Spectrum Warrior games online. I really doubt Splatoon will get to that point anytime soon. I mean, I still get MK8 games online really easily and a lot of online players of that game have been totally burned out.

That is what I have been saying since they first mentioned 1v1 TheSpeedyMouse. Actually, I think I mentioned the idea somewhere on these forums... but yeahm, that is definitely how it will work. All super jump jumps would be assigned to the d-pad

All super jump jumps would be assigned to the d-pad D-pad... YES!!! That would work completely! In fact that is probably how it will work! On the HUD you will see on the side what each direction will do. Three would be another player while one would be your base!

Wait, let me get this straight. In Scenario one it sounds as if you're describing a situation wherein one Wii U is outputting to multiple separate display devices at the same time. So that each player gets their own dedicated screen they're able to control that's separate from the others? Am I understanding that correctly? How is that even possible? Even if you could do that, they wouldn't be separate entities; each would be displaying the same feed across all screens. By "their own screens" I meant their own portion of the TV screen when the game is being split-screened. Since all four players would be using Pro Controllers, the Gamepad is no longer necessarily. Everyone would have their own map on their portion of the screen. But the Gamepad screen could still function as a map if someone wanted to use it. 4v4 local play would only be possible with LAN. Which is why it's my largest concern.

I fear that I will have a hard time adjusting to the controls; I'm not too good at controls that use two joysticks for moving and shooting. I've tried in the past with games like Samus' games and I was just awful!

Content and variety, you look at games like Titanfall and Evolve, fun games but their shelf life is awful because you end up getting bored quickly because it is always the same thing.

1. Customization. They told us in the direct that clothing and such will effect stats, which I don't like. Mainly because you can just see someone's stats right on the player, which creates an easy way to predict.
HOW TO PREVENT: Keep the clothes with stats, but add a vanity slot so you can stay stylish, yet unpredictable.
2. Voice Chat. Smash Bros was smart with putting voice chat on "Friends Only" mode, but as far as we can see, basically you can use voice chat with anyone online.
HOW TO PREVENT: Take reports. That's all.
3. Is it worth it? They've obviously shown off quite a few features, but I'm afraid if it will or won't be worth the full 60. This is a new franchise from Nintendo, so no one truly knows what to expect aside from the demo at E3.
HOW TO PREVENT: Squeeze out as much stuff as they can! Seeing that they have 2 months of development, they should be able to add some things.

Since 1v1 is in the game, here is how I think it will work: One player is on the Gamepad. Super jump is no longer possible but it doesn't matter as it is 1v1. The second player is on the TV, They use a Pro controller or a Wii Remote with a nunchuck. They may or may not have a map. If it is a modified Turf War then they probably would have it, though obviously you couldn't see each other or super jump. If they had two people per Wii U, they could do this but maybe assign super jump to a button? But how would you select between teammates and your friends? Hold up, THERE'S 1V1 IN THE GAME? I'M DEFINITELY BUYING THIS!

Many of the previous posts have more or less described some of my fears for the game.
Arguably the biggest fear I have is that there won't be enough game modes and multiplayer variants. While turf war is an incredible idea that offers fast paced gameplay, I have been interested in some of the creative game modes that other members of this site have come up with.
Even though games like call of duty are just boring, mindless shooters, there's always multiple game modes to choose from, as well as customization options.
By giving the player multiple options for both gameplay and customization, splatoon's longevity would be extended, ultimately making the purchase that much more worth it for consumers.

That's pretty much my biggest concern too. Multiplayer modes. I want at least 5 including Turf War.
Turf War Team Splatmatch Capture the Catfish Domination New unique game mode.
I'd be fine if they included them as DLC for free later on. But that whole match only starting when 8 players join is incredibly stupid but lucky for us that can be easily patched to where it can be 1v 1, 2 v 2, 3 v 3, etc. As a person who plays TDM 90% of the time on CoD I wouldn't mind so much of Turf War is the only game type, but I understand if others would.

That's all. They have already confirmed that there will be no voice chat "with people you are randomly matched up with".

Splatoon has about 2 months, I hope they can cram in enough content to keep me playing it as much as Smash Bros.

Didn't they say that there is only Turf War because they want match making to be quick? Also they said the game is 4v4 because they tested with other amounts and players felt that they had to do too much with less than 4 and with more than 4 they felt like they had little impact. I also doubt that Nintendo would add four modes via free DLC instead of making the game come out later with more modes. However I could easily be wrong. Also did they say that turf War was the only 4v4 online mode in January or earlier/later? How did they word it?
