So you can either pick your clothes based on what advantages they give you or just because they look good. What'll it be? Personally, I'd go for just looks, but if it comes down to something competitive like a tourney, I'll wear a frilly pink tutu if it'll make enough of a difference.

Stats will definitly be a consideration when I'm picking out my clothes, but style is all that matters really.

I'm a filthy casual- I'll probably have 'for fun' costume and a 'war' costume, since you can keep gear around.

This isn't a question I can properly answer until the game is closer to release. Remember, perks as far as we have been made aware do not in any way affect stats. Stats are set in stone. The only way to get different stats is to choose a different weapon from within its main category. The Ink Rifle, Scoped Ink Rifle, and Quick Rifle within the Rifle family for example. All share the charge, range, and mobility stats. The only way to get different variaitons of those stats is to, again, choose a different weapon within that family. At this point there are no + 15 this - 5 that pieces. This isn't some RPG gear system.
It is entirely possible you won't have to choose. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were so many four perk pieces you could essentially have your cake and eat it too. It's not going to be difficult for me to come up with outfits that are both beneficial to my weapon load-out/general playstyle while appealing to my aesthetic tastes at the same time. Hell, many perks offer general benefits like lower ink consumption or increased squid movement speed basically allowing you to apply them to pretty much any weapon set. These general benefits make it so performance and your sense of style don't necessarily need to be at odds with one another.

I'm stilling hoping that this is a none issue. I get the different weapons, but the clothes with star system is really is hard to get exact answers out of, so this is the most vauge concept we know about. Can you only get certain perks with certain articles of clothing? Is it possible to upgrade clothing to have more stars until they get three, or can you simply replace then with a better piece, or is everything set to a predetermined set of stars? Honestly, I don't think it's the last one, as seeing all the equipment in the hub reveal, there was just too much of it for me to believe the developers would make all of those clothes inferior.

I am actually considering not picking the game until I know if stats are a big deal. If they are, the Nintendo sort of ruined the game to me, as I have no interest in playing it without being able to customize my Inkling to make her look like I want. Having to give her clothes that make she have the best stats would be simply terrible. I can't believe the devs thought tying stats to clothes would be a great idea, in a game that customization is heavily emphasized.

I think the clothing customization for stats will not effect your inkling as much as it might look, it will probably very minor of differences in stats so I wouldn't worry too much.

Again, clothing only affects perks. They do not alter your main weapon's three stats in any way. Since we already know there's a perk for the Ink Bomb, it stands to reason there's one for the other secondary weapons as well. As long as the developers aren't stupid enough to put two (or more if they're extra incompetent) conflicting perks on the same piece of clothing we're all good. That's another reason why randomized perks on unlock is a terrible idea.
You don't want a piece of clothing with perks that boost two different secondary weapons at the same time when it's only ever possible to have one or the other for example. If it is a random system, with no restrictions in place to prevent it that could easily happen. That being said, there is nothing whatsoever to indicate this to be the case. It's much easier to develop a system where every article of clothing from the Inkling level required to stock it all the way to its perks are set in stone. Makes things nice and consistent.
We've seen only a small taste of the number of clothing articles the game will surely have to offer. You're concerned over nothing. It's certainly understandable though because it's easy to see how it could all go wrong. Do you think the developers aren't aware that players won't want to have to choose between their looks and performance? Remember that if we were able to imagine a potential issue or concern, they have too. The developers have to factor in all sorts of potential feedback. Who is our intended audience? How can we appeal to as many as possible without pushing others away at the same time? If we went with method X, how would our audience react? Try to see the game for what it really is, not what you fear it could be. It's fine to be cautiously apprehensive. Just make sure you ground your thinking in the reality of the facts rather than the fear mongering of what ifs.

"Perks" are more than enough to make most people use the same clothes during online play.

No, they aren't. That would only apply if certain perks were for whatever reason far more powerful/effective than others which were either just plain bad or far less useful by comparison. That these overpowered super perks were only available on a limited select number of clothing articles. Basically oh if you want to compete you've got to wear the pink cowboy hat and dirty wife beater with rainbow flip flops outfit because that's the only way to get the "best" perks in order to stand a chance in higher level play. Please tell me that's not where you're coming from here.
First, as long as all perks are equally worthwhile and beneficial without any one of them toeing too far toward either you'd be a fool not to use it and you'd be out of your mind to even consider using it the above scenario becomes much less likely. The basic idea is to make each perk worthwhile without letting any one break the game's balance. In other words, don't make up a bunch of perks just to say you've got loads for the players to choose from if many of them are half-assed with little thought and testing behind their implementation.
Ink Saver is a fantastic example of a nice balanced perk. Anyone can easily benefit from it since it works with any weapon set yet it doesn't break the game by giving you unlimited ink or something. Those are the ingredients for a successful gear system. You take a group of well balanced, useful yet fair, perks and put them on a massive selection of clothing. Players will have tons of four perk clothing choices filled with all sorts of helpful perks for them to choose from. There won't one best outfit. There will be many combinations that all add up to an equal chance to win. How much work went into the perks themselves will in large part determine this systems overall success.

Has it already been confirmed that the perk in the picture on the shop is the perk that you have to use with the clothing article? Because if it hasn't, maybe you can swap out perks with other clothing pieces from the same type of clothing! I would sure like this if it happened to be true!

I'm pretty sure that's going to be the case. I would be so thrilled to have the ability to swap around perks so I could have exactly the ones I wanted on my favorite clothing choices, but if you were to ask me if I'd seriously bet on a system like that actually being in the game, I'd be reluctant to. It's far more likely that perks will be identical across all instances of the game and that which ones a particular clothing item comes with will also follow the same guiding principle.
This allows for one major advantage. Visual identification through consistency. To explain, once a player learns what all the perks are, how they work on a practical (in match) sense, and exactly which ones are on what clothing pieces, they will be able to discern at a glance exactly what sort of build an enemy/ally inkling is running which will allow them to then adapt to it by adjusting their approach/strategy accordingly.
I'd imagine that's at least partly why each item is so visually distinctive. It isn't just for the benefit of looking good. The unique designs make it easier for other players to quickly identify one another's setups from a distance. Each one stands out with it's own style so you can tell with only a brief glance for example that "Oh! They're wearing the Red high-top shoes. That means they've got the ink saver (main) perk." It also allows players that scout/penetrate deep into the map early on to gather and quickly relay Intel on the enemy inkling's builds to the rest of the team.

Hopefully it doesn't come to making this decision. But I wanna be optimistic and say there's a decent chance there will be so many perks that in the end it won't make a difference like Xeiros said.
If it doesn't end up being a big difference I'll definitely continue dressing my inkling how I want for style until I enter a tournament then I'd probably use the best build of we unfortunately end up having something like that. Although since this is a team game I doubt that will happen since it would be more beneficial to have some players play a different role than the standard.

Tbh, if stats are determined by what you wear, then ill wear anything that gives me the advantage. Hopefully it wont be a thing though.
