- Working on a local multiplayer mode in addition to online and Hero Mode
- Hero mode is predominantly a 3D platformer with heavy emphasis on human-squid transformations
- Random matching is done world wide, game tries to place you with players close to your skill level based on ratings
- Tried implementing a system whereby you could give orders to your team mates, but battles were too quick and hectic for them to be effective so they got rid of the feature
- Game won't use CPU fighters; only once 8 human players have been found will a match start
- Having multiple modes with random matching would limit the number of players per mode, so all the focus is on the 4 vs. 4 for that
- No communication with players you are matched with
- They didn't think of using Bloopers when they decided on squids (they apparently forgot they existed)
- No money can be earned in Hero Mode. Your points, as displayed at the end of the match, are turned into money and experience points.
- A lot of the music is written by Tooru Minegishi (who has worked on Zelda, Animal Crossing, and Super Mario)

-While online is focused on just painting the ground, hero mode focuses on using the ink to move forward.
Wait a minute.... Turf War better not be the only multiplayer mode in the game.

A lot of that is either just the same information from last night and just plain things we already knew.

If it wasn't clear, I was referring to thefro's post, not yours. Either way, it baffles me just how little we know about what's actually in the game this close to release. Apart from little tidbits here and there, the game to us is still in many way the same as it was at E3. All I'm reading from this Famitsu interview are their attempts at implementing this or failures to do that. So what did you do then? What exactly is in the game? Voice chat? Maybe tell us about the other game types are going to be? At this point we should have a much better idea of what the final build of the game is going to be like.
It's already February and generally a game is completed at least a month or so ahead of the street state. To use Mario Kart 8 as an example. The final game was shipped to Critics and notable Youtube users for review/advertisement purposes about a month ahead of its actual street release date. This means Splatoon will likely be completed late March to early/mid April.

I`m afraid that will be the case. - Having multiple modes with random matching would limit the number of players per mode, so all the focus is on the 4 vs. 4 for thatIf they won't even implement 3 vs. 3 because they are afraid of not being enough people to match you with (and we are talking worldwide only), then probably that's all we are getting: Online 4vs4, local multiplayer, 1vs1 and Single player campaign. I hope we can get at least something to play 4vs4 competitively, like inviting friends and being able to talking to them, organizing matches or tournaments, I don't know, SOMETHING. - Tried implementing a system whereby you could give orders to your team mates, but battles were too quick and hectic for them to be effective so they got rid of the feature- No communication with players you are matched with
This is what scares me. They know the game infinitely better than me, I'm not going to tell them how to do their job but c'mon, I don't care how much information I can get from the map, a team can't coordinate and strategize without talking. I think that's not hard to understand, it's like teamwork basics, period. Right now I don't think I'll buy the game on release day, I'm going to wait for the first reviews, or to your impressions at least.

Recently we've known so little about some of their past big games until the very last minute because they like to wait to announce everything in a Nintendo Direct for that one game.

This... makes no damn sense. The main mode is always the most played. Implement 2 v. 2, 3 v 3, what the f***? This is literally a non-issue.

Perhaps we'll get a message box system like MK8 online maybe?

If no voice chat is conclusive we may have to go to RaidCall or TeamSpeak. :/

We dunno yet. But yeah, seriously. Keep in mind Nintendo HAAAATES showing everything before release. Like, they loathe the shit out of it. Voice chat PROBABLY isn't a thing, but recall that MK8 nor Smash 4 had any indication of voice chat either (or at least I don't recall it being an advertised thing) whatsoever.
...To be honest, whether it had voice chat or not, I'd still likely just go with Skype.

Yeah I think BlackBird has it right. That Famitsu article was intentionally vague and ambiguous. There was a hell of a lot of stuff completely untouched and unheard of about Smash Bros. until its dedicated Nintendo Direct. Even Splatoon's daily updates give very small information, and some of it is cryptic. I think Nintendo will tell us everything in the inevitable Splatoon Direct, I think that will most likely come in mid April or early May. At its earliest, late March.
I think there will be more multiplayer modes, FTF Voice Chat, and more. They're just being hush hush about it.

The devs would really be missing out if there were just one multiplayer game mode.
I agree, they have to be keeping certain information until the release date gets closer.
